Private Sports Clubs whilst often charities also need to function as businesses and make ends meet and some professional sports clubs represent the highest levels of sport. Their survival depends on many things be they bowling, cricket, tennis, football, rugby or multi-sport.
Over nearly three decades in sports turf consultancy we have observed that the key asset the club has is its ground and pitches. I have seen clubs function out of little more than wooden sheds and thrive with volunteers who are dedicated selflessly to the task of supporting and developing young or older talent (Noel MacKenzie is a semi-professional swimming coach in his spare time) whatever buildings are present. However, without reliable sports facilities and playing surfaces the best clubhouse in the world will not ensure a club’s survival therefore we encourage working toward providing safe, reliable and, where necessary, economically produced surfaces.
At the other end of the scale Noel MacKenzie has had the privilege of working with some of the top sites in the country such as All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Premiership and League football and rugby Clubs, company sports clubs e.g. Glaxo Sports and Social Club, Allenbury’s Sports Club, Barclays Bank Sports Club, Metropolitan Police sports clubs, Lensbury Club, The Hurlingham Club, etc. and all these venues require extremely high standards on their sporting surfaces although other infrastructure is essential to their results as are the staff who’s skill and dedication bring the results we observe on television or spectating.
You will see from Noel MacKenzie’s portfolio of clients over the years that we have extensive experience both with commercial and charitable sports clubs. Sports Turf Consulting offers a full suite of knowledge on all turf surfaces and we want to see you thrive and we want to help you improve your facilities within the tight resources that often prevail.
Within the specific sports sections you will gain an insight into what we do for each type of surface and how we work to improve pitches and lawns. As a private club we are sensitive to the challenges to you as “businesses” and whether a single sport or multi-sport site we invite you to informal discussion of your issues and how to progress your facilities and ensure its survival.
